So the husband and I just moved to Texas. We went away for the weekend and turned our HVAC central air from 68F and ON to 75F and AUTO. For some reason when we got home the AC wouldn’t drop. Now I know that the temperature outside jumped this past weekend (07/11-07/12) and that can sometimes have an affect on how the AC runs. Unfortunately as it’s gotten hotter these past few days our AC jumped from 78F to 85F and won’t drop below 82F. Given it has been 103+F outside, and that 20 degrees does make a difference, but it still makes it extremely uncomfortable to sleep or do housework. We did just have the HVAC guy out here less than a month ago to check on everything for all the tenants and and all seemed fine. As of right now it is roughly 82F outside as well as in my home. I assumed that since they’re the same it should be easier on my AC to at least drop to 75F but it hasn’t yet and it only seems to be blowing the air from outside (it’s set on auto again, just so I could make sure when and if it was cooling) since it has the same feeling as the slight breeze in my backyard. I’ve opened windows and busted out the trusty ice packs and box fan to try and circulate the air more as well as push out some of the hot air as well. My question is if I can bring down the temperature in my home (two story duplex) with the $30 DIY air conditioners will it help my AC sort of kick in? My husband is being stubborn about contacting our rental agency about the problem as a) this happened once before but it worked out (I turned off the AC in an attempt to save money and it took about a day to go from 75F to 68F) and b) they charge either $25-$50 to come take a look at it, not to mention according to our last set of neighbors it could take up to two weeks for them to get someone out here.
Thank you so much in advance for any advice.
